Abstract

Considering changes in publication habits, a particular role will be given in the future to the global ISSN system for the Identification and registration of remotely available sources. During the evoluíion of the ISSN strategy for the coming four years, the expectations, opinions and visions of information scientists should be taken into account. The strategic system plan will be completed with the help of external experts, tailored to trends thai can be foreseen. The realization of ideas is en-hanced by the starting of the ISSN-URN project. The key issues in the determination of tasks for national centers cooperating within the global ISSN system are those related with the definition of the extended application scope of ISSN.
