Realization of shared cataloging model in military school libraries

Abstract

The new higher education law of Hungary has a positive impact on the integration process of military school libraries and special libraries. The advantages of common development efforts have appeared in the information supply of both military and civil users. The development is planned in two phases, with close coordination of the libraries involved. The result is a system characterized by advanced information and telecommunication in-frastructure that is capable to satisfy optimally user needs and, simultaneously, to meet the challenges set by the country's plan of joining the NATO. The system's core would be the Library of the Military School Zrínyi Miklós, cooperating with other intermediary libraries and those serving end users. The common operation with three participating libraries is set to start in November 1998, while other libraries are expected to jóin the consortium in 1999.
