Translation science and the science of linguistics

Abstract

The study compares translation science with today's science of linguistics which denies the existence of the former one. The author examines various flelds of translation-theory and translation technics. It is concluded that although translation is mainly an activity of applied linguistics, semantic and logic operations - unavoidable in bilingual relations - make it independent of present mostly formalistic linguistics, and promote it to the rank of an independent branch of sciences. Up to the present translation theory has given more to linguistics as linguistic theory to translation.
