SfB - a special classification scheme for building industry
Abstract
To meet the particular classification needs of building industry, several special schemes have been worked out abroad, one of them being the SfB system. SfB - elaborated in Sweden between 1946 and the late fifties - has recently become the most wide-spread one.
By three basic tables (products, materials, elements) SfB permits the identification of all concepte occurring in building industry. The individual concepts can be expressed as a combination of symbols of the three basic tables. Application tables form the variants of the basic tables to be used for various applications. SfB is already widely used abroad to classify documents, types of products, catalogs, and so forth. In Denmark and Sweden it is even used for computerized cost-analyses and calculations.
By publishing the Catalog of products of the Hungarian building industry this will be the first instance of its use in Hungary; the Catalog will group its material according to SfB. Adjusted to the specific Hungarian requirements, the SfB tables will presumably be published here in early 1969.
