Abstract

In 1968, too, the main task of NIMDOK was to make avaible for the Ministry of Heavy Industries all information necessary for technical and economic activities. The reform of economic management affecting industry, has also brought about a change in the character of the information work required from the Office. Within the framework of documentation and information work, two new series of publication were stated. The exchange of information with COMECON member states continued successfully. With the increase of demands in this fields a corresponding development seems to be necessary along several lines. Consideration should first of all be given to developing the subject fields, and subsequently, the methods and devices. In 1968, another information activity, new both in nature and methodology, was added to the existing activities of NIMDOK: it is the Central Information Service of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, with is responsible for ensuring a flow of information between the individual departments of the Ministry, and for performing such tasks as strengthening and established regular relations as regards information flow between the ministry and its companies, keeping all interested parties up to date on information activities going on within the scope of the ministry.
The Office made over 200.000 pages of translation work of 18.420 items in 1968. As a result of the switch-over to the new system of material incentive, whoch caused essential changes in the economic system of the Office, a considerable amount of money could be spent on development. In 1968 the number, volume and complexity of tasks showed a strongly upward tendency with a corresponding increase in the number of personnel, too. The number of individual inquiries considerably increased as compared to that of regularly recurring information tasks. All wich facts necessitated an investigation into the further development of the Office. After surveying the actual situation and relying on the finding of the survey; it became possible to elaborate further tasks.
