Abstract

The article reviews the papers read in Section II. (Patent Information) of the Symposium on Invegtive Activity and Patent Retrieval, held in Moscow, June 1-5, 1969.
The resolution on "The state system of scientific and technical information", adopted by the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union in November, 1966, had a strong impact on the development of patent information.
The All-Union Library for Patents and Technology of the Soviet Union plays a very important part in patent information, particularly as regards information functions relating to the novelty test of patent claims. In the field of patents, demands for microfilms and other services of reprography are being met by the Patent polygraphic company. Finally, the responsibllity for the operative management and methodological control of patent information rests with the All-Union Research Institute for Patent Information (CNIIPI). The activities of these organizations, as well as their long-range objectives formed one major subject of the Section.
Read mostly by foreign participants, papers on the international aspects of tasks to be solved in the short or long run formed the second major subject field. There were lectures on the extension of the use of International Patent Classification, on methodological requirements to be met by patent abstracts, on the mechanization of the bibliographical description of patent specifications, as well as on the application of computers in patent information.
