The vision of Hungarian libraries in the academic network

Abstract

The role and place of the National Information Infrastructure Programme (NIIF) providing services for the academic network has recently significantly changed, and the relevant tasks of the relevant institute have been taken over by the Governmental Information Technology Development Agency (KIFÜ). This has also changed the position of the Hungarnet Association, seen by many as "NIIF’s Parliament". Within the framework of NIIF (and its network, HBONE), the library community has become a major player since the 1990s, and has also been instrumental in shaping the vision of Hungarnet and of NIIF's strategy. Therefore, when the Board of Hungarnet decided to formulate a new strategy, the libraries of the academic network were requested to outline their wishes and professional vision regarding a special network infrastructure.
The article is intended to assist this effort by inspiring discussion around the issue and by asking readers to contribute eventual additions.
