Abstract

A Hungarian-French agreement on the French Scientific and Technical Documentation Centre in Budapest (Centre de Documentation Francaise Scientifique et Technique de Budapest) was signed on February 7, 1967.
The Centre de Documentation Francaise Scientifique et Technique de Budapest was established on the basis of the agreement on Hungarian-French scientific and technical co-operation, and is functioning as an independent organizational unit within the frame of the Hungarian Central Technical Library and Documentation Centre.
Its task is to promote informing Hungarian engineers, experts and research workers about French scientific and technical results.
In order to attain this objective, the Centre
- carries out manysided information activities (the maintenance of a speciel library, documentation, film information);
- organizes special exhibitions;
- provides audio-visual teaching of the French language for Hungarian technical and other experts;
- organizes discussions and conferences, or assists in their organization, if organized by other bodies in order to further Hungarian-French scientific and technical co-operation.
Due to the co-operation between the Centre de Documentation Francaise Scientifique et Technique de Budapest and the Institut Francais in Budapest, the audio-visual language teaching has been going on in Budapest successfully since the autumn of 1966.
It was the following month after the establishment of the Centre de Documentation Francaise Scientifique et Technique de Budapest, that the French Technical Week was organized, where this new body already displayed a certain activity.
On April 8th the Centre de Documentation Francaise Scientifique et Technique de Budapest opened an exhibition of French technical books and periodicals, and also showed exhibits displaying the activities of four French enterprises. It continued its activities by utilizing as an other means of information, the technical film. A French technical film show was held on the 20th of April, where films on the electric and engineering industry were projected.
As part of its future activities, the Centre de Documentation Francaise Scientifique et Technique de Budapest wants to make use in the future of rendering information from the special literature.
Its future tasks include for instance the setting up of a French firm literature collection, the preparation of a publication on the French Technical Week and the editing of a review on new French technical books.
