Abstract

Author intends to contribute with his paper to the solution of the problem concerning the preparation of an international terminological standard. The problem of deposit store/storage library reveals significant terminological discrepancies in the literature. In order to settle this problem, author deals with the respective legal considerations in the first part of his paper. Deposit, depositor library, depositee library are defined. Then, by studying the functions referred to, deposit store and storage library are distinguished. In case of a deposit store, the stocks of several libraries are stored at the same place, original proprietary rights remain unaltered, there is no possibility for refusal or rejection, the catalogue list representing registration of the stock deposited will be kept by the depositor library, and the depositee store will organize the utilization and dally delivery of the stock items safekept in its custody. In case of a storage library, however, proprietary conditions change, the stock in question will be transferred into the possession of the storage library. This establishment will take over all library functions, keeps only the necessary number of copies if more than one available, and rejects the rest by dispatching such items to the possibly most suitable destination or by sale. This library has its own catalogue, runs its own charge service and reading premises, and the stock items deposited will be cancelled from the catalogue of the depositee library.
