Abstract

The leading topic of the Association of Special Libraries and Information Bureaux's Conference in Holland in September centred around the discussion of the user's needs. The five delivered papers at the sessions gave an overall picture on trends of development of information services in Holland and their results. They also helped to examine from various points of view the needs of the different levels of users. The presentations of the papers were followed by a lively discussion, during which several other problems, including those of training, mechanization in information, etc, were raised.
Both the papers and the dabate, as well as the study trips during the Conference have shown that Holland, as a small country, tries to improve the efficiency of its information services by bringing about a wide scale of national and international co-operation among existing information organizations, whether they function as a governmental or government-assisted body or within the scope of private enterprises.
The fact that the ASLIB Conference has been organited this year for the first time abroad. In Holland, also aimed to further international co-operation and division of labour in the field of information activity.
