Abstract

In course of the slow development of capitalizm the demand for technical documentation only arrose in the 20th century. Géza Káplány, the re-organizer of the predecessor of the Central Technical Library was on that standpoint that the library is the basis of technical reference. He set up the fundaments of library management and documentation guided by these considerations. - The demand for immediate reference and the problems of development in small libraries parted do-dumentation from the libraries in the fifties.
The aim of a modern institute library is reference. This doesn't only mean the reference sevice of the big libraries, but it also means immediate and detailed information service using all available publications of that special branch of science (that can be books, reports on research, periodical publications etc. - original or microfilm copy). These tasks can only be solved with up to date revealing methods, well managed documentation and reference work.
The cataloging of the publications is done by the librarians or the documentating sections joined to the library and these give a uniform revealing method for all publications. The same system reveals the documents of the experiments of the institute too, and so gives an oportunity to use them together with the abstracts of current technical literature.
