The methodological supervision of the libraries in the high-grade technical education library networik has been necessitated by the need to build up the litrary systems in co-ordination with the expanding duties of the national technical development and educational reform activity. First the library of the Miskolc University for Heavy Industry has been inspected in 1961, followed by the survay of the Central Library operated by the Budapeat Technical University (1963) and, subsequantly, by that of the Veszprém Chemical University Library in 1964.
Ihese investigations aimed at the information of superior authorities on the library situation, and to have the beat librares and engineering professionals participating in the committees work promote the advancement of these libraries. The committees inspected the libraries from three aspects:
- Library management, labour organitation and performance,
- Importance of the library in tha university and high-grade education system,
- Duties of the library within tha national organisation of the socialist library activity.
The reports composed on these library inspections contain datailed factual statements as well as the suggestions siming at the improvement of the activity. The libraries thus inspected cosposed proper programs for the realisation of the proposals referred to, then submitted reports on the actual realization of these proposals to the supreme authorities which have decided upon the supervision. Results show that the investigations conducted with great skill efficiently promoted the development of technical university libraries.
