Abstract

Before the liberation the number of translations was rather small in Hungary. This has entirely changed after the liberation and it gained more and more importance after the nationalization of industry, because of giving more importance to technical development, and later it was increased by the international connections of the country.
The number of translators did not keep step with the demands, the number and quality of translations, i.e. the absolute number of translators have decreased and the age of them has increased, so we can find that their average age is over 60. The OMFB (Hungarian State Office for Technical Development) has completed a study of problems in the field of engineering translation with a specialized subcommittee.
This article reviews the most important problems of technical translation through this study, analyses the language and special knowledge of translators, the different problems of financial and moral encouragement as an aid to clear up problems. It deals with the training and extension training of translators, the setting up of the society of technical translators and how to join them with the work of international societies.
