Work of industrial libraries in statistical figures in 1960
Abstract
The Hungarian Central Technical Library and Documentation Centre (OMK) yearly collects, sums up and evaluates the statistical reports of the industrial libraries. This year - for the first time - summing up was made by means of Hollerith cards and machines, thus cross -analysis became easier.
According to statistical figures in 1960 there were 919 industrial libraries in Hungary, in the various factories, research- and planning institutions and other organisations. Their stock (excluded that of the OMK) consists of about 2.700.000 library units (volumes of books and periodicals, patents, standards, translations, trade catalogues and other documents).
Within these libraries there are working 389 full time librarians, documentalists and translators and 827 part time librarians. As the result of their work 52 % of the engineers and technicians in industry study regularly the technical literature and 25 % the services of technical documentation. 294.000 pages of translations and bibliographies (with 41.000 entries) were also made in the network during 1960.
