Abstract

This article is the edited version of a contribution tc a Hungárián conference on professional languages. The author is not a linguist by profession, but was the founding editor of a Hungárián elec¬tronic journal, has gathered the word-set of infor-matics for the Hungarian-English and English-Hungarian dictionaries and particípated in termi-nology standardization. His principles related to the transfer of professional terminology are the follow-ing: to translate the words if it is possible with beauty, else forming a proper Hungárián word. When this process is unsuccessful, the originál (English) word has to be written according to the Hungárián pronunciation. The recent practical process is illustrated with a number of examples together with other linguistic effects. Several con-clusions are drawn.
