The documentation of research reports
Abstract
During and ever since World War 2 scientific research has grown to auch an extent that the technical journuls have proved to us insdequate and insufficient for the publication of the resulte of research work. This is the very cause of the coming into existence of Research Reports us a new contribution to the various documents in technical literature, with its importance rising from day to day. The bibliographic recording, abstracting and propagation of the ever swelling flood of report literature has, in turn, raised a more and more urgent problem calling for a systematic solution in each country. In Hungary, the Hungarian Central Technical Library has set about it by collecting the foreign (mostly American) reports and surveying them in the abstracting journals regularly issued by the same library. On the other hand, in the special libraries of our research institutes there is only a straddling work done as yet along the way of gathering and of documentation in general of home, and foreign reports.
The present paper reviews the iniciatives taken in Hungary for the documentation of the reports in question, furthermore it considers auch problems as emerge in connection with the acquisition and bibliographic control of report literature and, in summing up, it presents a suggestion for the organizing of the documentation of home and foreign research reports.
