The Database of Celebrities

Abstract

In compliance with the concepts of the National Digital Data Archives and supported by the Ministry of Informatics and Communication, the MTI - Hungárián News Agency Corporation created a database of celebrities. The objectíve of the project was to set up a service system based on distributed databases, hosted by the MTI and searchable via a single web interface. Data retrieval can be com-pleted on various levels and at various costs ac-cording to user needs. The database contains data records and documents related to politicians, artists, sport personalities, scientists, economists, people who received national awards etc. The data retrieval is carried out in compliance with personal rights. In addition to MTI, three partner institutions are provid-ing access to their collections within this initiative: the Hungárián Academy of Sciences, the Budapest Music Center, and the Hungárián Filmhistorical Photo Collection Foundation. The service offers 10 databases altogether. The URL of the service is: http://kozszereplok.mti.hu. The contents of the cur-rently available databases are continuously en-hanced and updated with new and archivál records (the latter ones are being added as a result of a digitisation project). Furíher plans include the en-hancement of the service involving more collaborat-ing partnere and their information sources.
