The edge-notched card-assisted documentation system in the Institute of Production Development of the Keszthely Agricultureal College
Abstract
The article describes the edge-notched card dooumentation system of the Institute of Production Development of the Keszthely Agricultural College. The system sims at a multi-dimensional processing and presentation of documents held by the Institute. By adopting appropriately selected descriptors with due regard to the task, the system contains all information included in the documents. The punched cards tend to store the following types of information:
1. descriptors
2. authors in alphabetic order
3- year of publication
4. periodical title
5. type of document
6. language of document
The descriptors are stored by direct coding, other data by an additive coding system. The alphabetical arrangement of authors' names is solved by an exceedingly economical and special code. This is the only specific sequence code in the system, the rest of the codes, covering all the other types of data, are elaborated in accordance with the requirements of selection. The system has an appropriate number of spare positions for later development.
