Activities of the French Technical and Scientific Documentation Centre of Budapest (BFMTTK)

Abstract

In pursuance of the agreement on scientific and technical co-operation, concluded in 1966, between the French Republic and the Hungarian People's Republic, and of the 1967 agreement between the Association pour l'Organisation des Stages en France (ASTEF) and the Hungarian Central Technical Library and Documentation Centre (OMKDK), the French Technical and Scientific Documentation Centre of Budapest (BFMTTK) was set up in Budapest to work as a separate unit of OMKDK.
The Centre is responsible for the extension of Hungarian-French relations in the field of science and technology:
-it should supply the interested Hungarian institutions and experts with currant information on French industry, scientific research and its achievements, up-to-date technologies and research methods adopted in France and the most developed industrial products;
-the Centre is also charged with the organization of language courses for Hungarian technical and economic experts.
The Centre performs its information functions in compliance with the demands of Hungarian science and industry and with the possibilities of the French partner, by the following means:
-visual information (films, technical exhibitions and shows etc.);
-oral information (lectures, courses, round-table conferences, consultations);
-documentation;
-library; periodical, firm literature and film collections.
The Centre employs the most up-to-date intensive audio-visual methods in its language courses.
