Relationship between scientific and technical terminology and certain fields of technical information

Abstract

The article examines some of the problems related to the past, present and future development of scienfitic and technical terminology. It outlines the terminological activities of such institutions and organisations as the Soviet Academy of Sciences, IEC, UNESCO, the Hungarian Office for Standardization, etc. lt also deals, at length, with the linguistic problems of creating scientific and technical terms and with the theory of building terminological systems with especial view to the synonyms of terms, terms having several meanings, terms of foreign origin, and to the terminological dialects. It formulates some basic requirements for the new terms and terminological systems to be established, and makes some recommendations as to the main trend to be followed by the terminological work in Hungary.
