Abstract

IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) is the world’s leading advocacy body among professional library associations. An outstanding area of its operation is the elaboration of international library standards and guidelines, the formulation of principles, and the publication of statistics, infographics and other information sources presenting the state of the art of libraries. Several official IFLA documents have been produced in connection with the digital preservation of cultural heritage and the digitization of library materials. In 2014, the IFLA Professional Committee approved a guide on the digitization of rare book and manuscript collections that require special procedures, thus assisting library and information science professionals to plan for the digital  preservation of these materials.
