It is a strategic objective at the global level to develop the financial literacy of all age groups. In our series of studies, we focus on library initiatives to promote informed financial decisions. Our aim is (1) to integrate a field that is typically unknown to librarians into the Hungarian library profession, thereby improving the financial literacy of librarians, including librarian education; (2) to share good practices from libraries abroad for adaptation, to catalyze the introduction of new financial education (and business development) services in all types of libraries; (3) and indirectly, to raise the prestige and social utility of the Hungarian library system and librarians. In Part 1, we analyze international library and information science literature to define the related library framework (collection, information and services, events, competencies) and identify the main library trends in financial literacy development abroad (mainly in the US) that can inspire innovations in Hungary.
