Namespaces as sources of authentic knowledge

Presentation of the Geographical Namespace project of the National Archives

Abstract

At the Hungarian National Archives, namespace building has been going on for more than a decade. The namespaces of persons, bodies and geographical names are built to support the creation of analytical research systems. These namespaces are ripe for rethinking, conceptual and functional modernization, and content expansion.

Based on the complexity of each namespace and the need to use it, it was decided to renew the geographical namespace as a first step, followed by the personal and corporate namespaces, by taking the model developed in the geographical namespace project forward in the next steps. It was here that innovative procedures and a specific logic had to be developed, reflecting both archival professional standards and state-of-the-art technology.
