Open library collections on the Internet: standardized metadata for interconnectivity

An important feature of digital collections appearing in growing number on the Internet is interconnectivity, Le. the capability of cooperation with remote systems. Without interconnectivity the efforts needed for their generation does not result in the benefits expected. though using interconnectivity can multiply the ad-vantages. Information technology has contributed to this process by open systems, XML formát and standardized metadata. Web usage in Hungary has reached a point where the efforts should be combined this way. Interconnectivity, however. can be realized only by the harmonization of relevant developments and by a strong central support.
