Abstract

The article provides a generál overview to the activities of EuroStat, the European Commission's statistical Office.
It describes the legal basis of its operations, intro-duces its main products and services, as well as the website of EuroStat. The field of statistics was an impor-tant chapter in the accession negotiations, too. During the last couple of years, the European Commission's Phare programme helped the acceeding countries at their preparation for the accession. The author provides information on these Phare-supported activities, too.
