Implementing life long learning strategies are an essential condition for building knowledge-based societies in the member states of the European Union. All EU citi-zens should have equal opportunities to be able to adapt to changes actively: life long learning strategies aim to nurture active citizenship and increase employability. The study presents the old and new tasks of libraries in comparison with the requirements of life long learning.
