In this series the concepts of information science, their evolution, appearance and relationships are presented, in the framework of the development of these concepts. In addition to establish a cultural historical tableau, the aim is to create a model for formíng a more unified image of information. In this eighth, concluding part two research areas of the 21st century are discussed, Decision Theory and Pattern Recognítion. They can be íncorporated in the information science model outlined in the pre-vious parts, and they show interesting similarities with the library classification theory. Finally, some conclusions are formulaíed that can be derived from the history of information science.
