Academic journals and full text databases

Abstract

This article explores the availability of academic journals of all subjects through full text databases. It discusses the two most comprehensive databases that are available from EBSCO, the world's largest intermediary between publishers and libraries. The paper explains the company's strate-gies with regard to its academic databases. The article examines which databases are strongest in each discipline. It covers issues such as availability of most-cited journals, peer review status, embargó periods, backfiles, full text formats, etc.
