Development concepts of the Budapest Ervin Szabó Library (FSZEK), Hungary

Abstract

The development program of FSZEK covers a 7 to 10 years period. Following the reconstruction of the Library's central buildings, the major development tasks include the follow-up by the member libraries of the FSZEK network, and the integrated reengineering of the central library and the member libraries. The authors present the basic guidelines of development, with special regard to the network as an organization as well as its services. Further directives include the development of the infrastructure and its equipment, the restructuring of management, maintenance and economic functions. The objectives are to provide modern library and information services for the total territory of Hungary's capital city at high levél, with differentiated service capacity and less units. The fundamental infrastructure for this goals would be provided by the reconstruction of the library buildings, by a widearea telecommunication and computer network, by the introduction of harmonized software and hardware support.
