The virtual union catalog of the Szent István University, Hungary

Abstract

The implementation of a general information search frame system developed in Hungary is presented. This system coordinates the library TINLIB databases of six, geographically separated campuses of the Szent István University in a virtual union catalog. The frame system written in Java and called Monguz handles severai protocols {Z39.50, CCL, SQL etc.) which makes possibie the realization of a common surface of heterogeneous data collections (like TINLIB, Qtéka, Huntéka. Corvina) Monguz supports the retrospective retrieval of the member institutes' collections with two record exchange forma ts, TINLIB and USMARC. Further plans of cooperation include the gradual modernization of the member library systems that is made seamless by the application of the Monguz frame system.
