Abstract

The presently valid regulations of recording methods of art pieces and exhibits in museums should be reevaluated. Present rules make possibie only paper-based records, though computer programs are available in severai national or local museums. To solve this problem, parallel computer recording should be allowed with recorded information corresponding to the presently required paper-based data. In this situation the Excel functions of the Office package can be used in a small museum, or simple database management programs can be used. In the case of the Kiss Pál Museum in Tiszafüred, Hungary, the Access database management system has proved lo be satisfactory. The main purpose of digitalizalion in a small museum is the provision for availability of electronic information on collections in other dedicated institutions.
