The International Federation of Library Associa-tions, IFLA was inaugurated in 1927, following a preparational period- In the 1930s, under the lead-ership of outstanding librahan personalities, it had been Consolidated, and it had succeeded in riding out of the crisis of the 2"d World War. In the 1950s an overall restructuring had taken place that had established the basis for the rapid development of the 1960s. A permanent staff had been organized that became the General Secretariat of IFLA, and new statutes had been adopted. Professional activities had alsó been strengthened, and IFLA had become a definite factor of the international libraríanship. In the period following the 2nfl World War the Presidents had opened new prospects for the Federation, the General Secretaries had se-cured the frameworks for the everyday activities.
