Abstract

The Book Festivals were started in 1994 as an initiative of the Hungarian Association of Book Publishers and Distributors. In the past decade of years they have become significant professional events of the world of books. Exhibitions were organized at the Budapest Congress Centre where during 10 years 3415 exhibitors from 39 countries presented their products for near half a million visitors. A specialty of these festivals boosting with extremely heh programs has been the internationally unique Librarians' Club that has become an important professional forum. The main characteristic data and outstanding events of the Festivals' and Clubs' history are summarized.
