Depository library of the European Union in the Library of the Hungarian Parliament

Abstract

In the Parliament of Hungary as well as in its Library a special consideration has been given to the preparations for the country's joining the EU. In this framework the need arose in the library of legislation for the establishment of a special collection. The Library of the Hungarian Parliament asked the European Commission in 1997 that this library be the depository library in Hungary of the European Union, because it has acquíred a significant experience with library deposit matters. The 10lh Directorate General of the European Commission decided in June 1999 that the EU depository library will be established in the Library of Hungarian Parliament. The licenses of the depository library includes the free acquisition of all official publications in English that is determined as document for deposition, and the free use of the databases of the European Commission.
