Abstract

The basic philosophy of management systems for companies are analyzed, and the reasons are discussed, why the establishment of such systems became necessary Recently more service companies and other institutions have set up quality management systems in conformity with the ISO 9000 series of international standards and have received certification on them. The new edition of the international standards published some months ago takes into account this trend, and recommends the implementation of a more flexible system than the former one was. It can be tailored to the specific features of a company, it will better satisfy the requirements of clients and the needs of its own staff The new approach takes alsó into account the ideas expressed in the philosophy of Total Quality Management (TQM) as well as those used as the basis for the so-called excellence models used for the assessment of companies in the framework of national quality awards systems.
