Since 1994-95 library materials of several libraries of the Catholic Church have been processed by the Orbis database management system. It became soon necessary to make these data platform independent through internal or public networks. The most obvious solution is the web making available the data by any proper web browser. Because the Orbis is a DOS based software, the offline transmission of the data is needed to a database capable for web connection. The heart of the system is an SQL based relational database management system calted PostgreSQL run on the Linux system for data storage. The program makes possible searching books by various parameters. The loading and maintenance of the database is performed by Perl programs.
