Abstract

In this series the concepts of information science, their evolution, appearance and relationships are presented, in the framework of the development of these concepts. In addition to establish a cultural historical tableau, the aim is to create a model for forming a more unified image of information. In the third part the evolution of telecommunication and the tools and concepts of automated operations are discussed. In the field of telecommunication, from the drums as the first device to the optical telegraphing in the 19th century, and in the field of automatic machines from the first animal traps to the punchcards for power loom control of the 19th century are covered The first thousands of man-kind's life is the age of nonelectric devices but several basic concepts of today's information tech¬nology have been recognized in these centuries.
