Experiences with distance learning on the Internet based on the DEDICATE project

The Veszprém University Library, Hungary, has won a grant, based on its results on compuler applications and educalion activities, for participation in the international DEDICATE project in the framework of the EU 4th Library Telematics Program. Within this project some of the Library and University staff were participating as trainees on the „Information Search" distance learning Internet-base course. This way they were educated in the methods of cost-effective distance learning, and its organization and management. In addition to gaining international relations, the Library has obtained extra opportunities for technology development, book purchasing, database subscription, and it has alsó acquired significant experiences wilh EU programs. As a result of the course, the Library introduced educational programs within University curricula and for external organizations, extending this way the scope of library services. By adopting the distance learning methodology according to the DEDICATE project, and by intro-ducing advanced information technology solutions, new perspectives have opened for the Veszprém University Library in the field of information services for students, teachers and researchers.
