The traditional, especially universal classification systems, were pushed into the background with the spreading of remote and local online information searching. Today, with the appearance of the Internet and, especially, the web, they will again slowly become current. In Ihe global Internet catalogues, kept up via advertisements, uniquely designed universal classification systems have been developed. As opposed to this, in the scientific catalogues traditional library classification systems (like UDC) are preferred. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed in detail. Under the conditions on the Internet, disadvantages can be avoided to a large extent.
