Integrating information search capabilities into problem-oriented education

Abstract

The level of higher education in Hungary, including education in medicin is significantly lagging behind international practice and recent challenges. A new efficient educational method, the problem-oriented education is described which has been successfully implemented in medical universities of North America. The Library of the Debrecen Medical University (DMU) Hungary succeeded in the introductíon of information science and technology education to the curriculum of the University in 1996. A substantial area within the course Introduction to Informatics of DMU is online search practices in various databases. The significance and results of these practical studies are discussed.
