Library system on personal computer

Abstract

The TextLib intergared computer library system developed in Hungary is described. This system is an evidence for the implementation possibility of an automated library system on an average personal computer system. The software has been developed to take into account the needs of both small and large libraries, and also Hungarian library standards, regulations and habits. All modules that are common for any library system make possible flexible use according to the library's magnitude. TextLib follows client/server architecture, and is capable for multiuser services without a network operating system. A typical characteristics of the system is its uniform and convenient use in Windows environment, easy handling of diacritic letters, and extended user help functions for each process. Modules for Internet search of TextLib have been installed, according to advanced requirements. Some deficiencies and problems with the system, due to its continuous development, are also pointed out.
