The database of the International Nuclear Information System, INIS, coordinated by the International Nuclear Energy Agency, and its sister product, the Energy Database, controlled by the Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) have special position among the bibliographic databases Both are prepared by the member countries of the INIS and ETDE, resp., in a decentralized way. The nuclear and energy related documents are collected and processed in the member countries' INIS and/or ETDE organizations under the direction of the respective Liaison Officers. The bibliographic records are sent in computer readable form to the INIS and ETDE center, to the IAEA/INIS headquarter in Vienna, Austria, and to the ETDE center in Oak Ridge, Tennesse (USA), resp. The records are then used to update the INIS and Energy Database, and the output products are used in the member countries where the responsibility of the dissemination of information is again in the hand of the country's INIS and/or ETDE Liaison Officer. Following the description of the two databases, Hungary's participation in the INIS and the preparation for joining the ETDE for searching the Energy Database in Hungary is presented.
