Tendering in libraries abroad

Abstract

The law in effect in Hungary since 1995 on public acquisitions specifies the duty of mandatory tendering for libraries. This practice has several advantages in acquisitions of library collections. Experiences of international libraries should be utilized for the formation of the Hungarian practice. The manual of Library Association (UK) offers valuable help to the librarians publishing tenders, in the compilation of documentation, in evaluation and validation. The prescriptions of its ethical codex can establish the correct partnership of the buyer and seller.
