Development trends reflecting supports by foundations and grants for the Central Library of SOTE between 1990 and 1996

Reports on the libraries of the Semmelweis University of Medicine, Hungary

Library development in Hungary has been enhanced very effectively from the mid-eighties onwards by various foundations and grants. They have provided extra funds, in addition to government support for developing information infrastructure in libraries. The Central Library of SOTE acquired copying machines and computer hardware from the Volkswagen and Soros foundation funds. Grants based on the higher education support (FEFA) in Hungary have brought basic changes in traditional library operations. A series of life science databases available through computer networks, integrated library system, bibliographic video services and library collection protection system have provided new opportunities and conditions for advanced library services.
