Automation of research and academic libraries In Poznan

Abstract

A consortium of ten research and academic libraries of Poznan, Poland, has been established for the co-operative overcoming of the problems brought about by the challenges of library automation. The Mellon Foundation contributed in the project with a donation of $ 1,150,000. The following task are to be solved: (1) Establishment of a common database of bibliographic records in USMARC format. (2) Establishment the town network called POZMAN. (3) Installation of 420 workstations in the libraries. (4) Introducing an integrated library system. (5) Establishment the Foundation of Research and Academic Libraries of Poznan for project management. (6) Acquisition of CD-ROM databases. (7) Retrospective conversion. Preparations, present status and future plans of the project are described.
