A new station, rather than goal: information services based on the Z39.50 standard

Abstract

Based on some features of library automation, the role of the Z39.50 standard in advanced library system is presented (without the description of the standard itself). The introduction of this standard is recommended. It is pointed out, however, that the development of the program systems following this standard is a complex problem. Therefore, it is suggested to buy the new version of an operational library system which uses this standard.
