The national special libraries in Hungary and the new Library Act

Abstract

A new Library Act is under preparation in Hungary, dealing with information institutions, including special libraries. In relation of this task it has become necessary to discuss the problems of national special libraries as well as their role in information services. This type of libraries is a historical formation and has an important role in library system representing larger libraries wich function independently but usually under the control of ministries. Last years the role of libraries was intensivery discussed. This paper seeks for answer what kind of new role the libraries should play in the system and how they can appear in the new Library Act.
