The collective hyperdocument

Abstract

The World Wide Web has opened a new era in the history of information technology. The free navigation based on hypermedia in the global computer network, the Internet, has dramatically facilitated access to knowledge. The development points toward a global library organized in a hypermedia way using the concept of the collective hyperdocument. The author examines the preparation process and methods of the collective hyperdocument. In the first part, some relevant initiatives are presented as the basis for further improvements, with special focus on the network of concepts for helping navigation and on the classrfication of links. In the second part a possible way to produce hyperdocuments is described. Finally, an actron is proposed: the community of Hungarian librarians could prepare a hyperdocument in the subject field of digital libraries.
