Collection acquisitions policy and practice in the first five years of the library of Central European University

Abstract

The Library of the CEU, Budapest, Hungary was established in 1992. Its collection has been expanded to more the hundred thousand unit documents. These documents have been acquired through purchasing (the acquisitions budget was 800,000 USD for 1997/98), exchange of publications, donations and by obtaining other libraries' collections. Development points toward the preferred acquisition of electronic information media and to online retrieval. The library of CEU intends to save the unity of traditional and electronic information sources and services.
