From collection development to resource development

Abstract

The author prefers library collection development according to the satisfaction of defined user needs even in libraries of Central and Eastern Europe, rather than augmenting library collections through gifts and exchange of publications. It is emphasized, however that, for development of collection efficient interlibrary cooperation should be taken into acccount. It is important, both from the point of view of collection development and information availability that library collections should include advanced information sources, even if electronic publication involves problems related with intellectual property and copyright.
